FINALLY! After months and months of nothing, we have a few eggs again! We found out the other night that part of the reason for the dearth was a family of opossums that we caught yolk-handed – we first learned that they had broken into the pasture after finding 3 hens eaten in their coop. Finally one night, we caught a big chonky opossum going for a 4th. The next two nights, we found smaller opossums inside the empty coops that the hens like to lay eggs in during the day – one had his whole adorable face covered in yolk! They’ve been booted from that pasture into a hopefully safer area. We didn’t have the heart to kill them, since they were just trying to survive during negative temps. Plus, all three were super sweet and easy to catch!
