Buying Our Goats

Buying goats from a small operation looks a bit different than purchasing through an auction or marketplace. We put this page together to explain how availability, pricing, deposits, pickup, transport, and policies work so there are no surprises. When goats are available, listings include everything you need to evaluate fit and move forward.

Before you buy

Goats have specific housing, nutrition, and health needs that can catch new owners off guard. Our Goat Care Guides cover how we handle daily care, feeding, minerals, common health issues, and what to plan for long-term. We recommend reviewing them before purchasing – it’s a good way to see how we manage our herd and make sure you’re set up for success.

Goat Availability

Goat availability is handled through one of the channels below depending on the animal and timing. If a goat isn’t listed or offered through one of these, it isn’t currently available.

  • Waitlist: We maintain a waitlist for kids from planned breedings. Our Goat Breeding Plans page outlines upcoming pairings and goals, but doesn’t guarantee availability of specific kids. Performance herd buyers and returning buyers may receive priority.
  • OpenHerd: Our full herd is managed on OpenHerd. Goats with a price listed below their name are available.
  • Facebook: Available goats are posted on our page and breed groups from time to time.
  • Craigslist (Green Bay): Available goats are occasionally listed here.

We may not be able to respond to general availability inquiries – between daily animal care and full-time jobs, response time can be limited.

When a goat is available, the listing will include pricing, details, and pickup timing.

Waitlists & Deposits

We maintain free waitlists for all of our goat breedings. These are first-come, first-served contact lists – we work down the list in order once an animal becomes available.

Being on the waitlist does not reserve or claim an animal. A goat is not held for any buyer until a deposit is received.

Anyone looking to claim a goat – whether it’s already on the ground or a potential kid from a future pairing – has the option to place a deposit. Deposits are nonrefundable for any reason unless we are unable to provide the chosen goat or a suitable, agreed-upon replacement. Goats without a deposit will continue to be advertised until pickup.

Deposit details and pickup timing are always confirmed before payment is requested. This system helps us manage availability fairly and keeps cancellations to a minimum for everyone on the list.

Price List

Why Our Prices Are What They Are

Our prices may be higher than some backyard or casual breeders, and we want to be upfront about why.

Our kids are priced based on real, measurable investment – not hype. We actively work to improve our herd through health testing, structured breeding programs, quality nutrition, performance tracking, and long-term genetic planning.

That includes:

  • Registered, carefully selected breeding stock
  • Annual health testing, vaccines, and preventative care
  • DHI milk testing, linear appraisal, and show participation
  • Premium feed, quality hay, and hands-on daily care
  • Extensive time investment in milking, bottle-feeding, and kid handling

Rather than assigning arbitrary prices, we use a transparent formula that stacks proven achievements from parents, grandparents, and siblings. Even so, we intentionally cap kid pricing to stay fair and grounded in real-world markets.

Our goal is to place healthy, well-raised goats with homes that value thoughtful breeding, honesty, and long-term soundness.

How Pricing Works

Each kid starts with a base price. Additional value is added based on documented performance, appraisal, and show achievements in close relatives. Individual kid quality may adjust pricing up or down.

Registered kids start at $450. Pet or food-quality kids are priced lower depending on the severity of faults and age, and are listed at market rates. We can wether bucklings for an additional $25 each.

Pricing caps: Final kid pricing is intentionally capped at approximately $1,000 for kids out of experienced dams or $600 for kids out of first fresheners, even if the full formula would mathematically exceed that amount.

Caps exist to reflect real-world market conditions and to ensure pricing stays fair, consistent, and accessible.

Policies & Disclaimers

By placing a reservation or purchasing from us, you agree to the following:

All sales are final. No refunds or returns of any kind will be accepted. We stand behind our animals and want every buyer to be satisfied, but once a goat leaves our care, its handling and condition are beyond our control. For biosecurity, safety, and animal welfare reasons, we do not accept returns.

The sole exception, as outlined in our Health & Viability Disclaimer, is if a goat is found to have a congenital defect that permanently prevents use in breeding – such as intersex status or additional orifices. In that case, we will offer either a refund of the difference between breeding and pet pricing or a replacement, at our discretion.

Right of First Refusal: We reserve the right of first refusal on any goat bred by us. If you are selling a goat purchased from us, we ask for the opportunity to buy them back before they are offered elsewhere. This applies only if the goat has remained in quarantine and/or your herd has tested negative for CAE, CL, and Johne's. We may not always be able to exercise this right due to herd capacity or life circumstances, but we ask to be given the option.

Seller's Right to Cancel: We reserve the right to cancel a sale at any time, for any reason, at our discretion. Any deposit paid will be refunded in full if we cancel.

Semen Retention Clause: We reserve the right to collect up to 30 semen straws from any intact buck sold by us, at any point during his lifetime, at the cost of collection only.

Sales Priority: Priority is given to Performance Herds. If multiple parties express interest in the same goat, priority is as follows: Us > Paid reservations > Performance Herds > Waitlist > General public.

Priority applies unless a goat has already been reserved with a deposit.

Performance Incentive: For each registered JKHerdItAll or JKShrunkTheKids goat, we offer the original buyer a $50 incentive for each of the following achievements earned while in the buyer's care:

  • First awarded milk star
  • First Linear Appraisal score
  • First sanctioned show award

That's a potential incentive of up to $150 per Oberhasli or Guernsey and $100 per Mini Nubian (Mini Nubians are not eligible for Linear Appraisal).

Payment at Pickup: Accepted forms of payment for balances due are cash, PayPal Friends & Family, Venmo Friends & Family, or Zelle. Full payment must be received before any animal leaves our care. We do not accept checks. Friends & Family payment methods are required due to the risk of chargebacks after animals have been transferred.

To be notified when a goat becomes available, ask about our free waitlist. We contact individuals on the waitlist in order as animals become available. Performance Herds receive priority placement.

If a goat isn't yet ready to leave or pickup can't be arranged right away, a deposit may be placed to reserve the animal. A deposit removes the animal from active advertising and holds it until pickup. Deposits may only be placed by individuals 18 years of age or older.

Deposits are not required to purchase an animal. You're welcome to wait and pay in full at pickup – however, animals without a deposit will continue to be advertised and are sold on a first-come, first-served basis.

Deposit Policy: Deposits are nonrefundable except in the event we are unable to meet the specifications agreed upon when the deposit was placed. If we cannot meet those specifications, you may choose to receive a refund, apply the deposit toward a different animal, or roll it forward to the following year.

If an animal meeting the agreed-upon specifications becomes available and you decline it for any reason, the deposit is forfeited. Additionally, if a deposit has been placed on a kid and pickup has not occurred or been scheduled by 10 weeks of age, the deposit will be forfeited and the animal returned to active advertising.

Accepted payment methods for deposits include cash, PayPal Friends & Family, Venmo Friends & Family, and Zelle. We do not accept checks. Friends & Family payment methods are required due to the risk of chargebacks after livestock has been transferred.

Livestock Transport Policy

The buyer is responsible for arranging transportation of all livestock. Any health certificates or Certificates of Veterinary Inspection (CVIs) required for transport are also the buyer's responsibility to obtain and coordinate.

Pickup & Boarding

Animals must be picked up by the agreed-upon date unless other arrangements have been made in advance. A boarding fee of $3 per day applies if an animal isn't picked up as scheduled.

Local Meetups & Delivery

We're happy to meet within 30 minutes of Mishicot, Wisconsin at no charge – typically Green Bay or Manitowoc.

Delivery beyond this area may be available for $2.00 per loaded mile, calculated one-way from our property to the delivery location. If we're already traveling in that direction, we can often waive or reduce the fee.

Long-Distance Transport

For transport beyond our driving range, buyers may arrange their own livestock transporter. We've worked with several trusted professionals. See our recommended transporters.

Professional livestock transport isn't inexpensive, but these services provide experienced handling and solid care throughout transit.

All of our goats originate from herds tested free of the Big Three diseases (CAE, CL, and Johne's), and all goats on our property have tested negative while in our care. Due to the recent addition of a small number of new herd members, all kids are bottle-fed with pasteurized milk and housed separately from the main herd. This protocol further reduces the risk of undiagnosed disease transmission.

If you'd prefer a dam-raised kid, we're happy to recommend trusted breeders who offer that option.

Despite rigorous sanitation, coccidia management is necessary in our climate. We use preventative measures including herbal support. We also use Pro-Bac-C (lasalocid with probiotics). If a kid develops clinical coccidiosis despite preventative measures, treatment is provided under veterinary guidance.

Bottle-raised kids are typically ready to leave for their new homes at approximately 4–5 weeks of age. A boarding fee of $3 per day applies if a kid hasn't been picked up or scheduled for pickup by 10 weeks of age.

All kids will be disbudded unless full purchase price is paid within five (5) days of birth. There's a narrow window in which disbudding can be performed safely, and horned dairy goats are significantly more difficult to place in appropriate homes.

Disbudding may result in scurs, particularly in buck kids. While the procedure is performed by an experienced veterinarian, scurs can still occur and are considered a known and accepted risk.

All kids will receive ear tattoos. Tail web microchipping is available upon request for an additional $15.

For buck kids intended for ADGA registration, DNA testing will be submitted as required. DNA testing for other registries may be arranged at the buyer's expense.

For kids intended for registration, we offer to submit online ADGA and/or BGS registration applications and transfers when possible. Buyers must provide their full legal name, registry ID, phone number, email address, and mailing address to complete the transfer. Paper applications may be provided upon request. MDGA goats are typically provided with paper applications, though online submission can be arranged if preferred. MDGA-registered goats may also be registered with TMGR by the new owner using the MDGA certificate.

Wethers and goats sold as Pet Only are sold without registration papers or applications.

We manage our herd and land as naturally as possible while recognizing that goats raised in Wisconsin may occasionally need additional support to thrive in this climate.

Our retained breeding animals are vaccinated with Cavalry 9 for clostridial diseases and tetanus. We vaccinated for pneumonia for a period of years after bringing in a carrier animal, but haven't continued it as a standing protocol since resolving that situation. Respiratory vaccination may be used situationally if herd history warrants it. All kids receive TriShield First Defense and Bovisera at birth – both biological products that support passive immunity in newborns.

Vaccination decisions are highly individual, and we respect that buyers may have different management preferences. All adult animals sold have been vaccinated with Cavalry 9. Kids listed for sale are not routinely vaccinated with Cavalry 9 or similar products unless specifically requested – they receive passive immunity from their dams and may be vaccinated upon arrival at their new home. Vaccination prior to pickup is available upon request – just ask at the time of purchase.

The buyer has the opportunity at the time of pickup to inspect the animal and may refuse it if they believe it is not in acceptable health. Once an animal leaves our property, we cannot warrant its health, condition, or viability. All sales are final. Removal of an animal from our property constitutes acceptance of the animal and agreement to all terms of sale.

Livestock are highly sensitive to stress, and health conditions can develop rapidly after transport or environmental changes. For that reason, we offer no warranties or guarantees regarding the future health or viability of any animal.

Exception - Breeding Soundness: If an animal sold as registered breeding stock is diagnosed by a licensed veterinarian with a congenital or genetic condition that permanently prevents use in breeding, we will offer either a refund of the difference between breeding and pet pricing or a replacement, at our discretion. This exception applies only to defects that prevent successful reproduction – such as intersex conditions, freemartinism, or additional teats or orifices that impair breeding. Cosmetic traits or characteristics that may affect appearance or show potential are not covered.

Our herd is tested annually for CAE, CL, and Johne's disease. Additional testing may be arranged upon request at the buyer's expense.

Parasite management on our property emphasizes prevention and targeted treatment. We use herbal products and pasture management strategies and perform fecal testing at least three times per year, with additional testing as needed. When necessary, veterinary-prescribed medications are used.

We strongly recommend a fecal examination within one to two weeks of bringing a new goat home, with treatment administered as indicated. Changes in environment and management can significantly affect parasite load.

If a doe is sold as bred, we cannot guarantee that she will settle, maintain pregnancy, or carry live, healthy kids to term. Stress associated with relocation can affect pregnancy outcomes.

If a doe is sold in milk, we cannot guarantee that she will maintain production levels or continue lactation after relocation. Milk production is influenced by stress, nutrition, management practices, and environment.

Our breeding stock is selected from strong, well-established lines, including animals with milk awards and show titles in their pedigrees. Even so, this does not guarantee that any individual animal or its offspring will be show quality, earn awards, or exhibit specific levels of milk production or udder quality. Genetic outcomes vary and cannot be predicted or guaranteed.

In the interest of transparency, we disclose known faults or areas for improvement in each animal and actively work to correct them through responsible breeding.

Milk production and udder development are influenced by genetics, management, nutrition, environment, and stress. Production levels observed here may differ from what's achieved in another herd, and we cannot guarantee specific production amounts even when historical data is available.
