Candy | Mini Nubian Doe

By the end of 2023, we were absolutely not planning to add another goat – and yet, here we are.

We were still bummed about losing our favorite Mini Nubian buck, Marky Mark, before we ever got to breed him. After months of watching 2024 waitlists for his relatives, we couldn’t pass her up when Eliya made Penny Candy available. She is Mark’s dam, and she carries so many of the same traits we loved in him – the moonspots, the polled gene, the substance and the butterfat.

Candy has a slightly soft chine behind the shoulders, which we note because it’s there and we believe in being honest. Everything else about her is beautiful. She comes from a slower-maturing line, and by 2025 her udder had fully come together – wide, high rear attachment with strong medial suspensory, solid fore attachment with real capacity, and a level floor. She backed it up in 2024 by landing in the MDGA Top Ten for butterfat percentage with 6.3% BF, which is the kind of number that gets cheesemakers excited.

Her sire is VMCH Green Gables BF Spice of Freedom ↗, a multiple MDGA Grand Champion with one of the more decorated show records in the breed. Her dam Wonderful Farm SG Royal Candy placed Grand Champion junior doe at the 2016 MDGA Summer V-Show. Candy herself has show ring experience, placing in a highly competitive class of 18 three-year-olds at the 2023 MDGA Summer V-Show.

Her barn name at Green Gables was “Penny,” but since we already had a doe with that name, she became “Candy” here – and she has been very sweet about the whole thing. You can view her original page at Green Gables Mini Nubians ↗.
